2021 National Fee Update

To Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Committee Chairs, District Committee Members and Commissioners:
Summer is here, and Scouts are returning to Bert Adams, Woodruff, and Allatoona Aquatics Base for fun and adventure. As we move into the fall, we are excited for another great year of Scouting with new Scouts, and awesome opportunities for families.
Families are attracted to Scouting because of the unique and impactful opportunities that our program offers. They also enjoy a reasonably priced program, especially when you compare Scouting to other youth activities. National BSA has always been committed to keeping membership fees as low as possible, even while costs continue to grow.
Membership fees go directly to National BSA to pay for program curriculum and safety standards, training, Youth Protection resources and criminal background checks, and insurance coverage for official Scouting activities.
Starting August 1, the membership fee for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting participants will be $72, a $6 increase from the $66 fee enacted last August. The fee for Exploring participants will be $45, up from $42.
The one-time $25 joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting will still be required. There is no joining fee for Exploring, participants previously registered in any BSA program, those transferring from one program to another, or adult volunteers.
Fees for all adult volunteers will be $45, up from $42. That includes the cost of a background check. The unit charter fee will stay at $75.
Through Scoutreach, units are identified to have reduced membership fees which will be handled on an individual basis.
Be sure to include the Popcorn Sale in your unit’s plan this fall to help raise funds for camping and activities.
Participating in Scouting continues to be one of the best investments a family can make in their children. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your District Professional. Tthank you for your leadership in Scouting.
